Dodge Caravan
| | Model of the car: | Dodge Caravan | | | General comments: | Excellent minivan. OUr other caravan (we still drive it with 162,000 miles) has the 2.2 liter engine, and aside from the lousy nippodenso compressor (japanese) has been nearly bullet-proof (also replace the starter and two batteries, brake pads, hoses, two timing belts. | | | What things have gone wrong with the car: | Have trouble thinking of any. The sliding door recently became harder to close. When towing our 2400 lb popup camper, although the power is sufficient, the brakes seen underpowered. I shuuder when I ready of so many owners having trouble with the 4 speed automatic transmission. Ours is incredibly efficient and quiet. We have thought about purchasing a new caravan in 3-4 years, but these problems give ups pause. I am hoping that since there are more of these vehicles sold in this country than anything besides a Ford F150 (caravan, voyager, and T&C combined) that the problems are not out of line with the number of sales. At least this problem is not as bad as Toyota is having with the Sienna vans. I understand that hundreds of owners have had to have their engines replaced due to a sludge buildup that Toyota fails to acknowledge. I would appreciate hearing from other owners like us that have had good experiences with the 4 speed auotmatic transmissions, besides us. |
