Grand Caravan
| | Model of the car: | Grand Caravan | | | General comments: | I have put 50k on my 67k Grand SE, an ex-rental . Overall, it has been excellent value and since the Oddyssey was not yet available when I bought it, there wasn't really anything to compare it to. I have added aftermarket struts to firm up the ride, and it handles great. The maintenance has been completely reasonable so far. The Honda looks very competitive, and it's resale value will hold up better, but I prefer my Chrysler product. I believe that 2001 up should be as reliable as any Honda product.
At 67k, outside of oil changes, I have had to:
1) reline the front brakes and replace rotors (still cost less than turning and replacing pads on my Honda)
2) replace struts and shocks (the old ones weren't worn out, so maybe this doesn't count)
3) replace tires
4) replace wiper blades
5) change the transmission fluid
In fairness, I should mention the following:
1) Minor oil leaking from valve cover gaskets
2) Serpentine belt tensioner has been frozen in position for the last 10 months (seems like I would have had a problem by now?) | | | What things have gone wrong with the car: | Heavy third seat

weak front headlights*
weak front brakes* (from wear standpoint)
* = "improved" on 2001+ models (the heavy third seat can now be ordered two piece) | | | Previous car: | 84 Caravan
